The 8 helpful apps every parent should know about

These days there is an app for everything – from counting your labour contractions to ordering Brie Cheese and sushi straight to the delivery room.

We know parenting is hard so it’s a blessing to live in this digital age where an app can make life a wee bit easier for us. So, with that in mind, we’ve curated 8 of the best apps for parents today.

The Wonder Weeks – $4.49

The Wonder Weeks is an infant development book that explains how, in their first 18 months, children undergo ten periods of rapid development, known as “leaps”. The Wonder Weeks app allows parents to track their baby’s development against those leaps. This means you can understand what kind of new skills they might develop when and how they have changed.

Feed Safe – Free

This handy little app from the Australian Breastfeeding Association lets you know when it’s safe to feed again after drinking alcohol. This is one for wine-loving, breastfeeding Mums who’ve gone nine whole months without a drink and are ready to have a glass.

Just enter when you had your first drink, keep track of how many drinks you’ve had, and it’ll let you know when your breastmilk will be free of alcohol again.

Audible – Free

For the long, dark hours of midnight feeds, there’s nothing quite like an audiobook to keep you company. Audible is the biggest name in audiobooks for a reason, with an incredible selection of titles.

Note: The app is free to download. You just have to sign up to the subscription service.

The Fit Mummy Project – $14.99

Looking to get back into exercise after giving birth? The Fit Mummy Project app has short workouts you can do at home and has been designed specifically for postpartum women. You’ll be able to rebuild your core strength and get some exercise without having to worry about fitting it in around nap time.

Mush – Free

Sometimes being a parent can get lonely, so Mush is great for finding playdates in your local area. It’s awesome for parents who don’t have friends with babies close by.

Mealboard – $5.99

Who else finds it hard to think of a quick and healthy meal for their family every single night? The Mealboard app helps parents organise meals, shop, save money and make healthy choices for their families. It will help you avoid taking the easy way out by ordering takeaway.

Just sit down once a week, plan your meals and the app generates a shopping list. It even keeps track of the groceries you already have as well as your favourite recipes.

Chore Bank – $2.99

This is one for the older kids. Earning money by doing chores is a great way to not only learn the value of money, but to start saving.

The Chore Bank app helps parents organise themselves much better. Just enter the name of your children and the chores you want them to do and add a money value to each chore. Put the app on your kid’s devices and each time they complete a task it adds up how much you owe them. It’s a great way to motivate your children to help out around the house more.

Help Me – Free

This app was created by Bruce and Denise Morcombe as part of their work through the Daniel Morcombe Foundation. After their son Daniel was abducted and murdered, they decided to devote their lives to keeping the world’s children safe.

This app can be used by anyone of any age but in particular, children. The app makes it easy for kids to get help if they are in an uncomfortable or potentially dangerous situation.

There are many safety features in this app such as kids can speed dial four emergency contacts, be found by authorities (such as police via GPS if they get lost or are in danger) or send an instant OK message to their parents/carer.
