When you first start dating, often a lovely meal and a movie is all it takes to seal the deal. But after you’ve been together for a while with kids, what if you could do something different that would bring back that ‘spark’ from the first date?
Here are 8 creative and fun ways you can make the most out of your date-night. And don’t forget to leave an extra pizza out for your babysitter and enjoy!
- Re-enact your first date – even if it was a disaster
There’s something nostalgic and wonderful about your first few dates. Why not recreate them? Even if it was a terrible disaster, it will give you something to laugh and feel goofy about.
- Go to a fancy Bar and dress up
Get dressed up and go to a fancy bar. Hotel bars are an easy choice and while you’re there, try something you wouldn’t normally such as an exotic cocktail. How does a red velvet shortcake sound?
For some ideas on where to go, you can check out the best bars and bartenders here.
- Do something ‘naughty’
Ok, so we’re not teenagers anymore but you could try skinny dipping (c’mon we dare you). There are a few spots where it’s legal which you can check it out here.
Or how about a light sidewalk ‘graffiti’ such as a love padlock with your initials? Too cheesy? Bottom line is doing something you aren’t supposed to be doing can actually bring couples together. Plus, it’s great for a future story.
- Sing (really bad) karaoke
Best date if you’re both the worst singers in the world. If you can have a laugh and not take yourselves seriously, it will be so fun.
Don’t forget to try a few duets like “Cruisin” by Huey Lewis and Gwyneth Paltrow and “I got you babe” by Sonny and Cher.

- Go wine tasting – at home or at a cellar door
Head to your local Dan Murphy store and pick out a few bottles you’ve never tried or heard of. Have a mini wine tasting session coupled with some appetizers.
Or you can head to a cellar door such as Handpicked Wines where they have a large range of wines from over 50 countries for you to sample. They also have some cool few events you can get involved with such as wine yoga (we’re totally up for that!)
- Get your heart pumping with a bit of action – go to a fitness class together
Don’t settle for just the old spin class. Think of classes you may not go to on a regular basis such as salsa dancing or how about Retrosweat – a freestyle aerobics, and vinyasa flow yoga class to a 1980s soundtrack.
- Play a board game or puzzle together
Classics like Monopoly are always fun and never go out of style. Every household should have a few board games up their sleeves.
It’s time to dust them out of storage and roll the dice.
- Volunteer together
A date with heart and soul could be to head anywhere from a soup kitchen to a home for the elderly to volunteer.
Not only will you be helping out with the community, you’ll also learn more about each other which will bring you closer together.
For info on how you can volunteer in your nearest city, head to the Seek volunteer website.
