Find Fran’s babysitting checklist

Find Fran being as totally awesome as we are have tried to make things for you as stress free as possible. Because who really has the time for sitting down and making a checklist in their own anymore?

So here at Fran we have compiled a babysitting checklist, covering everything we believe is important to you and that should be considered when choosing and preparing a checklist for your little princes and princesses.

Before we dig into anything too groundbreaking, it’s always good to remember to ask questions. A good way to find out your babysitter’s attitudes and beliefs is to pose some questions to them and perhaps they will do the same for you. Meeting each other on a level ground is an excellent way to start off any relationship.

What kind of questions you say? (The scenarios are as follows)…

  • If my daughter Lucy begins to freak out because she’s only just realised l have left and keeps looking for me, how do you believe you would handle this best?
  • Have you ever experienced or have you had the proper training to deal with a situation of a child choking? And what would be the correct steps to follow?
  • Lucy can’t stand listening to me tell her that it’s her bed time and almost always refuses to go, how would you cope with this?
  • How do you keep the children you have looked after occupied? Do you believe imaginative play is useful in a child’s development?

Any of questions would be perfect in a checklist for your babysitter. From their answers, if they don’t exactly give a great one, don’t be afraid to pop in what you think should have been the right one. After all you know your little monsters better than anyone.

However, perhaps all has gone well with your person checklist on what needs to suit you and your family and reflecting upon this with the babysitter. The next step we recommend is creating a checklist which will help your babysitter out a million times more with fitting into your schedule. In doing this they will have a clear understanding of how to best look after your little monsters and will clearly understand where things are, your routines and be able to deal with any difficult situations that may arise when you are not at home.

In making this checklist it is important to always give clear instructions before leaving and allow time for your children to become settled with the babysitter before leaving. Almost as though you must make it clear who is now in charge.

The checklist should look like something similar to this:

  • Ensure your children’s care and safety at all times. If anything happens, you should be the first to be notified after any emergency call if needed.
  • Not every babysitter has had the opportunity of bathing or cooking for children before, and if this is the case until you know the babysitter a little better and the kids feel more comfortable, baths should be done before hand and dinner perhaps already cooked and ready to reheat.
  • Review with the babysitter your children’s feeding times, naptimes as well as bedtime routines, and also the preparation of light snacks and drinks/ what they are and not allowed to eat.
  • Always remember to show the babysitter where nappies, wipes, food and snacks are.
  • Discuss any medications that the sitter may need to be given to the children throughout the time in which you will be absent.
  • Be sure that your babysitter knows what to do in the case of any emergency, being aware of where the first aid box as well as torches are in case of losing power.
  • Always, always, always leave a list of emergency numbers as well as suggestions of who to call in the case of you be uncontactable.

It’s super important to keep a document like this up to date, and make sure both you and the babysitter have a copy of it. Aside from your checklists, make sure you suggest the babysitter to write one of their own. This will allow for the babysitter to have a say on if the little monsters have been up to in your absence. If you check out this search there’s a great schedule, have a look, write one down that suits you and your family, and perhaps share it far and wide for another Muma bear in search of a workable schedule for her family.
